About Competitive Feature Matrix

Paste a feature matrix with your product and competitors as columns and features as rows, marking each cell Y or N. The formatter produces a clean comparison table with per-competitor totals, feature coverage percentages, win/loss analysis against each competitor, and a plain-language summary of your competitive advantages and gaps. Use it to prepare for strategy reviews, investor conversations, or sales battlecards.

How to use

  1. Enter a header row listing your product and each competitor separated by pipes (|).
  2. Add one feature row per line in the format: Feature Name | Y or N | Y or N | ...
  3. Click Convert to generate the full comparison matrix with win/loss analysis and coverage summaries.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs about Competitive Feature Matrix

How many competitors can I compare?

The tool supports any number of competitors as columns. In practice, 3–6 competitors keeps the analysis actionable. Too many columns can dilute focus — pick the most relevant direct alternatives your prospects evaluate.

What does the win/loss analysis show?

For each competitor the tool shows how many features you have that they lack (your advantages) and how many features they have that you lack (your gaps). This surfaces where to invest in product development or where to lean into sales messaging.

Should I include features I am building?

Only include features that are currently available to customers. Roadmap items can skew the analysis and may be misleading in customer-facing materials.

How do I keep this matrix up to date?

Schedule a quarterly review — assign a team member to check competitor changelogs, release notes, and marketing pages. A stale matrix can lead to incorrect positioning.

Can I export the results?

Copy the formatted output and paste it into Notion, Confluence, Google Docs, or any Markdown-compatible tool. The table format is plain text and works anywhere.
